Volume One · Convincer 1
Magnetic Fingers
What you need
Nothing. Two hands, four minutes, and somewhere to sit where nobody walks in.
What you say beforehand
Say it plainly, in your own voice, while you’re both still fully awake:
“I want to show you something. It isn’t magic and I can’t make you do anything — you’ll see that in a second. Your body just does this on its own. If you want to stop at any point, say stop and we stop. Nothing else needs to happen tonight.”
Body and position
Sitting, facing each other, close enough that you could touch but aren’t. Their hands free. Warm room. One lamp, not the ceiling light.
The words
Hold your hands out in front of you.
Palms facing each other, about this far apart. Yes — like that.
[pause, let them settle]
Now look at the gap between your hands. Not at me. At the gap.
And while you look at it, I want you to imagine there’s a magnet in each palm.
Not a strong one. A small one. But it’s there, and it’s pulling.
[slower now]
You don’t have to move your hands. You don’t have to help.
Just keep looking at the gap, and notice — that the gap is getting smaller.
Smaller. All by itself.
The magnets are doing it, and your hands are simply allowing it.
[when the hands are almost touching]
And when they touch, you’ll feel exactly how little of that was you.
Direction
Drop your voice a little on every “smaller”. Never speed up — if you rush this, you’re the one who breaks it. When their fingers twitch, say nothing; let it happen. The silence you can hold is worth more than the next sentence.
Afterwards — how you know it held
Not the hands. Watch the face. If they laugh a half-second too late, or look at their own hands like they belong to someone else — that’s the moment, and it’s the moment the rest of the Masterclass is built on. Say: “That’s all it is. That’s the whole thing.” Then let it go and talk about something else.
Plan B
If the hands don’t move, nothing has gone wrong and you say so out loud — immediately, lightly, before they can feel like they failed. “Some people’s hands do it, some people’s don’t, it means nothing.” Then switch to the book test, which works on almost everyone, because it uses weight instead of imagination. Never repeat a convincer that didn’t land. Never.
