FREE GUIDE · TEN MINUTES · NO SECOND PERSON
Mira JanssenSelf hypnosis is not the same thing with one person fewer. It is missing exactly what usually carries trance: a voice you can follow without steering.
Alone, you are speaker and listener at once — and that is where it usually breaks. The way through is not more concentration but less doing: a fixed order, run so often that it eventually runs itself. That is the whole trick, and it takes ten minutes.

When someone reads to you, their voice leads. Alone, a sequence has to take that job — which is why it must never be improvised. Every variation costs you the depth repetition has built. Same six steps, same order, every evening.
An anchor is a small physical gesture that makes the state callable later: thumb and forefinger together, always at the deepest moment. It only works if there is a deep moment for it to hold, which is why it does nothing in the first few evenings. Add it once the six steps run without thinking, then always at the same place. After two or three weeks the gesture alone gives you a fraction of it. That is all it promises — and anyone promising more is selling you something.
Checking. Anyone who monitors whether it is working yet keeps themselves awake, because monitoring is a waking activity. The cure is not effort, it is boredom: the same sequence every evening, including the evenings when nothing happens. Second most common mistake: going long. Ten minutes daily beats forty minutes on a Sunday, and it is not close.
Self hypnosis is the foundation, not the destination. Once the sequence is automatic, working with someone else is a short step — you know from the inside what you are building in them. The guided evening to read aloud is Sinking; the whole craft is the Masterclass.
For most people, noticeably within ten to fourteen evenings — provided the sequence stays identical. Trying something new every night means starting over every night.
Related, not identical. Meditation mostly practises attention without a destination; self hypnosis heads somewhere specific and takes one sentence with it. The way down looks similar.
Yes, and for many people that is the easier entry, because a recorded voice takes back the leading role. Speak slower than feels right and let the pauses actually stand.
For healthy adults, no. It is not treatment and makes no medical claim — and none of it belongs behind a wheel or near machinery.
