Safety

Hypnosis is safe for consenting, sober adults when you sit people down, keep a stop, lift what you set, and do not use the state as medicine. The folklore risks — possession, stuckness, stolen will — are almost all stories. The real risks are banal and local: falling, leftover triggers, a rough landing, and people in the wrong chair.

This page is the house rule-set. Consent is the contract. Aftercare is the landing. Emergence is the door back.

What is not the danger

You do not get stuck. The state ends. See emergence.

You do not lose your values in a puff of smoke. Unwanted suggestions fail or cost the relationship. Neither is "control."

You do not uncover a hidden true self that must now be obeyed. Ideomotor oracles are not oracles. See ideomotor.

What is the danger

Gravity. Rapid work, standing work, catalepsy-as-theatre. Sit. A chair that does not roll. A hand near a shoulder. No table corners on the way down.

Leftover wire. Triggers and post-hypnotic jobs without an until. Empty them. List them. If you cannot list them, you already failed this paragraph.

The wrong job. Hypnosis is not a treatment for psychosis, for active crisis, for trauma processing, for pain you have not had looked at, for a child, for someone drunk. Those are not "advanced techniques." They are other professions — or they are a no.

The social mess. Humiliation as a laugh, recordings that were not named, a handshake at a party, a "just try it" on someone who cannot easily leave. Stage hypnosis has a version of this. So does the internet. So does a kitchen.

Drop. Not mystical. A slump after too much attention and too thin an exit. Plan for it. Do not boast about it.

House stops

No covert. No love-spells. No driving, machinery, or childcare under a cue. No new sexual content first proposed in trance. No session you cannot aftercare. No second session stacked on a bad landing. Eighteen and older, throughout.

If something looks medical — a freeze that does not thaw, chest pain, a seizure, a break with the room — you stop being a hypnotist. You become the person who calls the right help.

Is hypnosis real is a science page. This one is a floor plan. Use both.

FAQ

Is hypnosis safe? For sober, consenting adults, with a chair and an exit: yes, in the ordinary sense. The injuries that happen are almost always mechanical or social, not occult.

Can hypnosis damage your mind? Sloppy work can leave people shaky, embarrassed, or carrying a cue they did not want. That is harm. It is not a hole in the personality. Clean exits prevent most of it.

Who should not be hypnotised? Anyone who cannot consent, anyone you would not put in a quiet intense room for other reasons, anyone asking you to treat a condition you are not qualified to treat. When unsure, do not.

Is it safe to practise from a video? The words, maybe. The timing and the catch, no. Sit, start slow, and do not begin with a standing drop because a stranger on a screen looked confident.
