Induction
An induction is the structured transition from ordinary, scattered attention into trance — a doorway, not the show, and not a separate kind of hypnosis. Every school dresses it differently. Under the costume the same four moves run: give attention a home, let the rest fade, name what is already happening, then spend that credit to settle the state.

What it is not
It is not the magic words. There are no magic words. A beautiful induction delivered at someone who has not agreed, or who is still testing whether this is real, is a speech.
It is not the whole skill. After the door there is deepening, the work itself, and emergence. People who only collect inductions can open doors and then stand in the hall.
It is not faster-equals-deeper. A rapid or shock induction — handshake, pattern break, the stage "sleep" — reaches the same starting state sooner. What happens next is unchanged. The German public name for that compression is Blitzhypnose; the mechanism is fractionation's cousin, not its superior.
The families, in one pass
Fixation — Braid's point, a flame, a pendulum, a spiral. The eyes tire; closing them arrives as a mercy.
Progressive relaxation and breath — through the body, or on the exhale. Slow, almost failure-proof. The right first door for nervous people and for self-hypnosis.
Confusion, overload, interrupt — Elman variations, handshake breaks, too many words at once. They offer trance as the comfortable exit from a jam. Spectacular when the room is loaded. The fastest way to lose a room that is not. See Elman induction.

What decides the outcome, in this order: the pre-talk, consent, then calibration — reading the actual ideomotor channel in front of you. A mediocre induction, well timed, beats a brilliant one performed at a face.
Safety that is actually safety
People fall. Rapid work in particular. Sit. A chair that does not roll. A hand in reach of a shoulder. Standing drop-backs belong to people who have been taught to catch.
Never as an ambush. Without the build there is no charge; without permission there is no technique. That is safety and it is mechanics.

Can I induct someone without them knowing? You can talk. You cannot honestly call that an induction. Covert work fails as craft: the expectancy that carries the door was never built.
