Ericksonian hypnosis
Ericksonian hypnosis is the family of work that follows Milton H. Erickson: indirect suggestion, utilisation of whatever the person brings, metaphor, and often no formal induction at all. It looks like conversation until you notice the conversation has a slope.

What it is not
It is not "the kind where they don't know it's happening." Utilisation is not covert. Erickson worked with people who had come to be helped, in a room that already said so. Stealing the manner for an ambush is not Ericksonian. It is someone hiding.
It is not NLP. Bandler and Grinder modelled pieces of him and built a catalogue. Some of the catalogue is useful language. The school is not the catalogue. Hypnotic language as a bag of tricks is a different object.
It is not kinder by default. Indirect can be a gift (room to arrive) or a fog (no one can find the no). Permission language still needs a door that closes. See consent.
What the school actually does
Utilisation. A cough, a doubt, a loud truck — named as part of the work instead of fought. The person does not have to be a better patient. The work has to be a better fit.
Indirect suggestion. Stories, implications, questions that do the job of an instruction ("what happens when the eyes want to close?"). Same unit as any suggestion. More room around it.
Metaphor and nested talk. A story that is also the session. Powerful when the story is theirs. Decorative when it is a downloaded script about beaches.
Without a formal induction. Eyes open, talking, and the four induction moves still happen: a home for attention, a fade, a ratify, a settle. They are just not announced as a ceremony.
Compared with Elman: fewer public tests, more following. You know less, moment to moment, where you are on the staircase. That is the cost of the softness.
Where the claims stop
Erickson was a clinician. This site is not a clinic. The school is borrowed here as craft of language and attention, not as therapy, not as a method for trauma, not as a personality cult. Anecdotes from his case stories are stories. They are not your protocol.
Between adults, the same indirectness is how a lot of erotic hypnosis is spoken — invitation rather than bark. The heat is still in the books. The ethics are still consent.
